OFFICER: Sergeant Mark Carignan CONTACT#: 802-257-7950

DATE/TIME: 2/4/11 12:05AM

LOCATION: Vernon Road near the intersection of Royal Road

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

On 2/4/11 Brattleboro Police, Fire, and Rescue responded to a reported motor vehicle collision on Vernon Road near Royal Drive. Police found a single vehicle collision where a car had crashed into a telephone pole. The investigation into this collision is ongoing, however police are releasing the following information.

Timothy J. Velazquez (24) of Brattleboro was driving a 1999 Audi south on Vernon Road. Velazquez was the only occupant of the vehicle. The vehicle went off of the right (west) side of the road near Royal road and struck a telephone pole. The pole was snapped into several pieces.

Velazquez was trapped inside his vehicle. The scene was further complicated by the presence of live power lines that had fallen onto his vehicle. First responders stood by until CVPS cut power and then extricated Velazquez from the vehicle. Velazquez was flown by DHART to Bay State Medical Center in Springfield, MA.

Several residents in the area lost power. CVPS responded to repair the pole and restore power.
